Some interesting sayings of Ashraf Ali Thanwi
Assalaamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh I have a copy of Ashraf Ali Thanwi's Malfoozat. Like any other Malfooz, this contains statements & anecdotes of a particular individual. For reference purposes, this Malfoozat of Ashraf Ali Thanwi is compiled by Majlisul Ulama of South Africa (Port Elizabeth), the ISBN number is 81-7101-313-9 (edition 2000), and was Published by Idara Isha'at-e-Diniyat (P) Ltd, New Delhi, India. Flipping through this book, I came across some interesting sayings, which I quote below. Page 31, Number 98. "One should not interfere with and oppose the things established by our saintly predecessors. Their methods are all correct." Page 41, Number 124. "Two things are very beneficial. If a person adopts them, he will not go astray. One: He should annihilate his personal opinion. Two: He should not hanker after results, He should act according to the instructions of his Shaikh (Spiritual Guide). Taking these two points in mind - which are mention by Thanwi himself. Lets see what Ashraf Ali Thanwi's Shaikh has written on certain issues: Hazrat Hajji Imdadullah Muhaajir Makki (Rahmatullah alaih) writes: “The way of life of this Faqeer (Hajji Imdadullah Muhaajir Makki) is that I participate in the assembly of Moulood, and I celebrate this function every year and regard this assembly as a source for blessings and I find enjoyment in Qiyaam (standing)”. <Faisala HaftMas'ala, pg. 5, printed by Madani Qutub Khana, Multan, Pakistan> Hazrat Hajji Imdadullah Mohaajir Makki (Rahmatullah alaih) also writes: “Our Ulema fight in the issue of Meelad Shareef. The Ulema believed in its permissibility as well. When the side of permissibility exists, why then is there so much hardness on this issue? For us, it is sufficient to follow the people of Haramain (Makkah and Medina). At the time of Qiyaam one should not have the belief of Tawallud (that Rasoolullah - sallal laahu alaihi wasallam - is born now). The possibility of the arrival of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) in the Meelad assembly is not wrong because the bodily world is restricted to time and place, but the spiritual world is free from both. So the arrival of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is not far from being possible”.<Shamaime Imdaadiya, pg.50, Madani Qutub Khana, Multan>. Hazrat Hajji Imdaadullah Muhajir Makki also approved of Meelad celebrations in “Shamamia Imdaadia”, pg. 88, 93 Despite Thanwi's own Shaikh permitting, endorsing and even participating Meelad and Qiyaam, and even matters surround the issue of Haazir-o-Naazir. Thanwi and his followers object to these sacred practices and regard those that partake in them as evil innovators and deviants. Who do you think is correct? The Spiritual Guide or the mere followers? One should evaluate what Thanwi himself has said: ~If a person acts according to the instructions of his Shaikh (Spiritual Guide) he will not go astray~. It's evident that both Thanwi as well as his followers have not acted according to the instructions of their Shaikhs. Allahu waRasoolahu a'alamu.
